New Members, New Plans, New Direction

It’s been a crazy few weeks for Aahana! Our beloved graphic design intern Catie McDonnell finished out her co-op just last week and we’re already feeling the void of her contagious positive energy, creativity and immeasurable support on our marketing team. We’ve on-boarded new team members including design and social media coordinator Vidhi Chowdhari, as well as Adriana Lopez, Bhavika Patel, Parul Chauhan, Amelia Erikson and Sai Lohith to help guide us through our new partnerships in India, and Parth Baxi and Ravi Jain to assist on legal matters. We welcomed two (!!) new University Chapters at University of Illinois at Chicago and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We’re planning major events for June (stay tuned for details!), and preparing for Rina’s departure in July to develop partnerships in Gujarat.

Although it seems never ending, these are all positive steps for us to reach our goals as an organization. It’s sad to see team members go, but with each new person comes an entirely unique brain, perspective and skill set that can breath new life into a sometimes-stagnant situation. Our new members are extremely passionate individuals with varying degrees of experience in marketing, public health, education and finance, and are vital in our efforts to create sustainable partnerships with individuals and organizations in India. While Rina is in India, our new members will help us create partnerships with a focus on health and education for rural communities that are in need of development.

With each new step we take, we can’t forget our roots with the Human Research Foundation and the Mamta School, which makes the support of our University Chapters absolutely vital. We are so incredibly happy to welcome the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to the Aahana University Chapter family! Our Chapters help us spread awareness on issues we are sheltered from, encourage community engagement among college students and young Millennials, and help us fundraise money for the Mamta School. Our Director of University Chapter Relations, Alexandria Persad, has been working non-stop to make sure our new members are integrated successfully into the organization and that they have all the tools they need for success.

New initiatives, new partnerships, new team members and new University Chapters - we’ve got so many new things in the works and we couldn’t be happier! Expanding, growing and always learning, Aahana is evolving as an organization to help meet the needs of the people we want to empower. As always, we’ll leave you with some inspiration to be the agent of your own change.

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." - Barack Obama
